If a bankruptcy court approves the deal, Lucid will take over more than 884,000 square feet of facilities formerly used by Nikola, which filed for bankruptcy in February.

Lucid Group, Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire key Arizona assets from Nikola Corporation, in an effort to expand its manufacturing, testing and warehousing capacity as the company accelerates electric vehicle production.

The agreement, which is subject to approval by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, will see Lucid take over more than 884,000 square feet of facilities formerly used by Nikola. These include the manufacturing plant in Coolidge and the Phoenix headquarters and development center. The acquisition stems from Nikola’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy auction, which concluded April 10.

Lucid announced it will offer jobs to more than 300 former Nikola employees, spanning roles in engineering, software development, vehicle assembly, testing and logistics. These hires aim to support the company’s ramp-up of the Lucid Gravity SUV and a forthcoming midsize vehicle platform.

“As we continue our production ramp of Lucid Gravity and prepare for our upcoming midsize platform vehicles, acquiring these assets is an opportunity to strategically expand our manufacturing, warehousing, testing, and development facilities while supporting our local Arizona community,” said Marc Winterhoff, interim CEO of Lucid.

The acquired facilities are described as state-of-the-art and include development labs equipped for battery and environmental testing, a full-size chassis dynamometer, and precision machining tools. The move aligns with Lucid’s previously announced expansion plans in Arizona.

“Today’s announcement is fantastic news for Arizona workers and our state’s growing EV and battery manufacturing industry,” said Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs.

Arizona State Sen. T.J. Shope added, “This investment will be instrumental in helping those impacted by job loss to regain employment by Lucid and further solidify Lucid’s commitment to growth in Pinal County and our state.”
