The 2025 I-CAR National Conference launched Feb. 27 in Houston, TX, at the Hyatt Regency in the downtown area, bringing together collision repair professionals for a two-day event focused on education, innovation and industry advancement.

Described as an “industry-leading vendor expo that offers more opportunities than ever to connect and experience industry innovations,” the Collision Lab Partner Showcase was a dynamic platform for networking and discovering new partnerships. Attendees engaged with the latest advancements in collision repair, reinforcing I-CAR’s commitment to equipping industry professionals with the tools they need to succeed.

Following the showcase, several hundred attendees gathered for the Welcome Party, which set the stage for an evening of networking and celebration. The event transitioned into an awards presentation led by Jennifer Goforth, I-CAR board chair, recognizing outstanding contributions to the industry.

Recognizing Excellence in Collision Repair

Before the award presentations, Jeff Peevy, vice president of industry relations at I-CAR, took a moment to reflect on a longstanding analogy he has used throughout his career -- the importance of keeping the customer at the center of every decision in the collision repair process, which was represented by a chair.

“While every decision we make and every step we take is about the safety and satisfaction of the consumer, we’ve done even more in this, our 45th year, to put the consumer in our forefront on behalf of the six industry segments we serve,” Peevy said.

The evening’s awards ceremony recognized individuals who contributed significantly to the industry. One of the most notable moments was the recognition of John Van Alstyne, I-CAR president, for his 15 years of leadership. Goforth presented him with the True North Visionary Award, symbolized by a compass, acknowledging his unwavering dedication to I-CAR’s mission.

Goforth also praised Van Alstyne’s leadership, highlighting I-CAR’s growth and achievements under his tenure.

“And under John’s leadership, I-CAR has made incredible strides – expanding training programs, strengthening industry partnerships, and driving innovation in technical education,” Goforth said. “These efforts have paved the way for an even greater impact, leading us to the more than 10,000 Gold Class shops we’re proud to celebrate today.”

Earlier in the evening, Van Alstyne reflected on his industry contributions:

“As I stand on the cusp of retirement at year-end, I’m proud of all we have accomplished, especially the elevated visibility that complete, safe and quality repairs has across our industry today,” Van Alstyne said. “If each of us in the room tonight truly care about the consumer, our neighbors, our family, we can’t help but recognize the critical importance of the I-CAR vision.”

He emphasized the industry’s collective responsibility to maintain high standards.

“This event has evolved into a vibrant hub of innovation, uniting thought leaders and professionals dedicated to training, education and safety. It’s a reminder of why I-CAR was founded: to enhance consumer safety,” Van Alstyne said. “Because of our collective efforts, the drivers and passengers on the road can count on all of us to deliver the highest standards of repair. Together, we are ensuring that everyone in the collision repair industry possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to perform complete, safe and quality repairs, ultimately benefiting the consumers we serve.”

Honoring Industry Leaders

Another major highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Chairman’s Award to Mike Anderson of Collision Advice. Goforth delivered a powerful tribute to Anderson’s contributions to the industry.
