Four local families in Maryland and Virginia were gifted vehicles by the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) in collaboration with Vehicles for Change (VFC) and four area automotive dealerships, to bolster the recipients' independence and financial stability while offering them a lifeline in their daily lives.
Sport Automotive Group in Silver Spring, MD, extended a helping hand to Candice McNair, a clerk and single mother, by giving her a Toyota RAV-4. McNair plans to use the vehicle to further her education and obtain a bachelor’s degree in health administration.
Nissan of Bowie in Bowie, MD, presented a Nissan Versa to Toni Brown, another single mother facing the daily challenges of commuting and accessing essential services. This vehicle is expected to significantly alleviate financial strain and help her get to her medical appointments.
Tammy Carter of Prince William County in Virginia received a Nissan Altima from Rosenthal Automotive Group. As a patient access specialist and a mother, Carter's new vehicle will help reduce her commute time and support her daughters' extracurricular engagements.
Lastly, the Carter Myers Automotive Group in Charlottesville, VA, gave a Kia Rio to Adrianna Boyer, a sales administrator and mother of two, making it easier for her to participate in her children's educational and extracurricular activities.
Beyond the immediate benefit of mobility, this program offers the recipients an avenue to build their credit portfolio and improve their financial literacy. Each family contributed $950 toward their vehicle, secured a 12-month loan through Sandy Spring Bank, and received a six-month/6,000-mile warranty.
The NADA Foundation sourced the donated vehicles and contributed $5,000 per vehicle to cover various costs, ensuring the families received well-maintained and reliable transportation solutions.
