Women are making strides in the collision repair industry, as highlighted in a recent panel discussion hosted by the Women’s Employee Resource Group (ERG) at Driven Brands. The event featured two accomplished female franchise owners, Laura Kottschade and Wendy Murray, who shared their journeys, leadership strategies and industry impact.

Kottschade, owner of Jerry's Abra Auto Body & Glass in Mankato, MN, spoke about carrying on her family’s 50-year legacy in the business. She detailed her progression from working in the parts room to franchise ownership, as well as her commitment to community initiatives, such as raising more than $3,800 for Alzheimer’s research and providing hands-on training events for first responders. Her efforts earned her the 2024 Abra Community Champion award.
“Being part of this panel was an incredible opportunity to share my journey and connect with other women who are making a difference in this industry,” Kottschade said. “It's important to show the impact women can have in collision repair, and how we’re breaking barriers and changing the landscape.”
Murray, who operates six successful CARSTAR and Fix Auto USA locations with her son, Kyle, emphasized the role of family in her business. A key industry leader, she serves on the CARSTAR advisory council and the Edge Performance Group, advocating for female leadership and career growth opportunities.
“Being on this panel allowed me to reflect on how far we've come as women in collision repair,” Murray said. “It’s inspiring to see so many women breaking into leadership roles and proving that success in this industry is about skill, determination and passion.”
The Women’s ERG at Driven Brands fosters leadership, innovation and community among employees, offering networking and development opportunities for women and allies.
“It’s inspiring to see women leading the way in our industry, proving that leadership comes in many forms,” said Damien Reyna, COO, U.S. Collision. “Their stories are a testament to resilience, dedication and the power of building a strong community, both in business and beyond.”
