From the editors of HOT ROD and MotorTrend, “V8: The Engine of America” explores the legacy of the V8 and its significance in American car culture. Amid the ongoing shift towards automotive sustainability, the piece examines the advancements making modern V8s more powerful and efficient than ever, preserving the engines’ vital role in vehicles for years to come.

The documentary explores how today’s V8 holds its ground parallel to new automotive advancements and alternative engine types, including electric vehicles. Even with EVs undoubtedly on the rise, the documentary posits that America is still experiencing the golden age of the V8. The V8 engine is here to stay, with a promising future in new cars and trucks, on the racetrack and in the hands of racers, tuners, builders and enthusiasts.

The documentary features conversations with industry experts including television host, comedian and automobile collector Jay Leno, Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley, SEMA President Mike Spagnola, “Roadkill” host David Freiburger and HOT ROD Editor in Chief John McGann to better understand what the V8 means to them.

“The V8 engine is the heartbeat of American car culture, embodying performance and power, and is a signifier for how far the automotive industry has come,” said Michael Galimi, HOT ROD network director at MotorTrend. “As the industry embraces new technologies, including electrification, the V8 isn’t going anywhere, and its legacy will inspire future generations to innovate while keeping the essence of American muscle alive.”

The documentary premiere coincides with the newly launched HOTROD.com website, which will now feature a reimagined website experience for the HOT ROD community to access all HOT ROD news, events, HOT ROD Digital Archives, fan merchandise and aftermarket parts and accessories marketplace, in a single, unified destination.
