Universal Technical Institute (UTI) announced the addition of Tesla’s START Collision Repair program to its Manufacturer Specific Advanced Training (MSAT) curriculum, making it the first educational institution to offer this exclusive training.
The program, launching at UTI’s Long Beach, CA, campus in spring 2025, provides specialized collision repair education tailored to Tesla vehicles.
Tesla’s START program is a four-month intensive training initiative designed to equip students with the necessary skills to work in Tesla’s internal Collision Repair Centers. Graduates of UTI’s collision repair and refinish technology program who meet Tesla’s criteria and secure an internship with the company will be eligible to participate in the advanced coursework.
The curriculum expands upon UTI’s standard collision repair training with Tesla-specific modules covering electrical work, panel removal and replacement, and system recalibration.
“Our collaboration with Tesla is a significant milestone for UTI and underscores our technological capabilities and advancements,” said Tracy Lorenz, president of the UTI Division. “This partnership also serves as a testament to our commitment to innovation and ensuring that our programs remain relevant and impactful in today’s evolving landscape, as we prepare a workforce to safely and effectively repair the vehicles driving our future.”
UTI’s MSAT programs provide brand-specific training for global automotive manufacturers, preparing students for careers with industry leaders. With the addition of Tesla, UTI now offers 27 MSAT programs, further strengthening its role in producing highly trained technicians for the evolving automotive sector.
Graduates who successfully complete the Tesla START Collision Repair program will have the opportunity to transition into full-time employment at Tesla’s Internal Collision Repair Centers, reinforcing UTI’s commitment to connecting students with career opportunities in the rapidly advancing electric vehicle industry.
