A U.S. Navy veteran’s son and full-time caregiver in Tucson, AZ, recently received a life-changing gift -- a refurbished 2021 Honda Civic -- through the National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides program, easing his family’s transportation challenges and enabling continued care for his disabled relatives.

Claudio Estrada, the recipient of the vehicle, is the primary caregiver for both his father, a disabled decorated Navy veteran, and his grandmother, who is also disabled. Estrada is currently studying to become a registered nurse while balancing the demands of caregiving. When his car’s transmission failed, reliable transportation became a serious concern for the family.

The vehicle was donated by GEICO and refurbished by Chapman Collision, an I-CAR Gold Certified repair facility and division of the 75-year-old Chapman Automotive Group. Estrada was nominated for the donation by the Arizona Coalition for Military Families.

The donation was made possible through the NABC Recycled Rides program, which unites businesses across the collision repair industry to provide reliable vehicles to individuals and families in need. Since its launch in 2007, the program has donated more than 3,500 vehicles valued at approximately $51 million.

GEICO is the largest donor to the program, contributing more than 1,000 vehicles since 2007.

Additional partners involved in this vehicle presentation included Advanced Remarketing Services, Cars for Charity, Copart and Enterprise.
