Hyundai has expanded a recall originally issued in March to address widespread issues with the integrated charging control unit (ICCU) in its vehicles. The recall now affects more than 180,000 vehicles across several models, including Hyundai IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, as well as Genesis GV60, GV70 Electrified and G80 Electrified models, spanning model years 2022 through 2025.

According to Hyundai, the ICCU defect can damage the vehicle’s 12-volt battery and potentially result in a loss of drive power. The problem was first identified in October 2022 during investigations into warranty returns related to heat damage on low-voltage converter components.

The automaker confirmed 57 unique incidents in the U.S. linked to this issue between March and November 2024, but said there are no crashes, injuries or fatalities attributable to the condition in the U.S.

This expanded recall includes more than 34,000 affected vehicles in Canada.

Owners will receive notification letters by Jan. 17, 2025, with instructions to bring their vehicles to dealerships, where technicians will replace the ICCU and its fuses free of charge.

Owners of Hyundai vehicles can contact 855-371-9460, while Genesis customers can reach out at 844-340-9741 for further assistance. The Hyundai recall number is 272, and the Genesis recall number is 025G.
