Axalta Coating Systems secured two prestigious 2025 Edison Awards for its innovative automotive coating technologies, marking its seventh consecutive year receiving honors from the esteemed innovation program.
Axalta Irus Scan™, the industry’s first handheld color measurement device capable of detecting colored sparkle and hue-shifting pigments, won silver in the Automotive Materials category. MyColor™, a custom color-matching solution that significantly accelerates OEM approvals, earned bronze.
“Innovation is core to what we do at Axalta, and we continuously invest to help our customers solve challenges across surface aesthetics, performance and productivity,” said Dr. Robert Roop, chief technology officer, in a statement. “We are incredibly proud to provide next-gen technologies that address our customers’ needs and enable their success.”
Axalta Irus Scan is designed to streamline the color-matching process in collision repair by integrating patented technologies into a handheld device. It can measure gloss and detect complex pigments, providing greater accuracy and efficiency while reducing waste. The system is part of Axalta’s digital color management platform, which offers an end-to-end automated solution for the automotive refinish market.
Meanwhile, Axalta’s MyColor technology responds to a growing demand for fast, custom automotive paint solutions. The system shortens the OEM approval timeline for custom finishes from up to two years to just four weeks. By using pre-blended bases and colorants, MyColor enables more agile production, improved inventory management and reduced carbon emissions from paint operations.
Winners of the 2025 Edison Awards were announced at the 38th annual ceremony in Fort Myers, FL, and selected by a panel of global innovation experts. The awards, named after inventor Thomas Edison, have honored groundbreaking products and leaders in innovation since 1987.
