Toyota is expanding its commitment to education and workforce development in San Antonio with a $6.5 million investment in East Central Independent School District (East Central ISD). The funding, part of the company’s Driving Possibilities initiative, will provide students and teachers with STEM-focused resources, professional development and essential wraparound services.

The investment aims to strengthen the talent pipeline for industries like automotive manufacturing, a critical sector for Texas' economy.

"This $6.5 million in grants to East Central ISD will help equip students in San Antonio with the skills they need to get good-paying jobs in high-demand industries," said Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

Toyota has played a key role in San Antonio’s economy for more than two decades, assembling trucks and SUVs in the region. The company is simultaneously expanding its footprint with a $531 million rear axle plant, announced in June 2024, to support Toyota Tundra, Sequoia and Tacoma production.

The Driving Possibilities program will collaborate with Texas A&M University San Antonio, United Way of San Antonio, and Bexar County, among others, to develop an innovative STEM curriculum for select East Central ISD schools. The initiative will also establish a Family Resource Center, supporting student success through workforce training and childcare services.

"Education and workforce development are longtime priorities for Toyota Texas," said Susann Kazunas, president of Toyota Texas. "The future of our company and other companies across Texas depends on strong pipelines of students prepared to be the workforce of tomorrow."

Since launching in 2022, Toyota’s Driving Possibilities initiative has committed more than $75 million nationwide, aiming to break down barriers and create opportunities for students to pursue STEM careers. San Antonio is the ninth location to benefit from the program, reinforcing Toyota’s long-term investment in local education and economic development.
