Tesla has initiated a recall for 3,878 units of its 2024 Cybertruck, for an accelerator pedal issue that could increase the risk of collisions, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA's detailed Safety Recall Report indicates the accelerator pedals in the affected Cybertrucks might become dislodged and trapped in the interior trim, impairing vehicle performance. This defect arises from an unapproved lubricant used during the assembly of the pedal, which compromised the pad's retention.

Tesla became aware of the pedal issue March 31 following a customer claim. Subsequent investigations by Tesla Engineering confirmed the defect, prompting a decision to recall by April 12.

"If the pad on the accelerator pedal becomes trapped in the interior trim above the pedal, the performance and operation of the pedal will be affected, which may increase the risk of a collision," according to the NHTSA report.

Tesla's response includes replacing the faulty pedal assembly with a new setup that meets the proper specifications. Vehicles produced from April 17 onwards are equipped with the revised component, ensuring all new deliveries are unaffected.

"There were no injuries or accidents because of this. We are just being very cautious," Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, said on social media.

Customers owning the affected models will be contacted by Tesla for the necessary repairs, which will be carried out at no cost to them.
