Stellantis is offering voluntary buyouts worth up to $72,000 to hourly United Auto Workers (UAW) employees at more than 20 manufacturing and Mopar locations across the Detroit and Toledo regions.

The automaker, which owns brands including Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, Dodge and Fiat, is extending the offer to hourly workers with at least one year of service. According to a copy of the offer letter obtained by the Detroit Free Press, employees with at least one year but fewer than 15 years of seniority are eligible for a $50,000 lump sum payment. Those with 25 years or more can receive up to $72,000. The buyout also includes six months of medical coverage, excluding dental benefits.

Facilities impacted by the offer include the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, Warren Truck, Detroit Assembly Complex, Toledo Assembly Complex, Chelsea Proving Grounds and CTC facilities.

The offer is open from March 24 to May 8, but management will determine who may accept the buyout. Some employees will be able to depart immediately following a seven-day revocation period, while others may remain in place until Sept. 30.

The company has not disclosed how many employees it is targeting through the program. Requests for comment from Stellantis and UAW representatives had not yet been returned.

The move comes after a turbulent 2024 for Stellantis, which has faced workforce reductions at U.S. facilities, declining sales and high inventory levels. The company is also in the process of finding a permanent successor to former CEO Carlos Tavares.

Despite some recent improvements -- including pricing adjustments, stronger marketing efforts and leaner inventories -- the automaker faces renewed challenges tied to market instability and potential tariffs.
