U.S. Army veteran LaFonda Roberson received a 2016 Hyundai Accent she she can drive her son to necessary medical appointments.

On Oct. 6, a deserving Frisco, TX, veteran was presented with a vehicle thanks to the National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides® program along with car donor Allstate and repair partner Texas Collision Centers.

The presentation was held as part of the Dallas Growth Conference at the Dallas Frisco Hotel and Convention Center. The deserving recipient was selected by Soldiers’ Angels.

LaFonda Roberson, who received a 2016 Hyundai Accent, is a U.S. Army veteran who lost her husband to leukemia in 2011. Her son was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2005 and leukemia in 2019. In 2017, Roberson was admitted into the hospital for a condition which resulted in needing yearly blood transfusions and leaving her unable to work. A vehicle would mean she would no longer have to walk or try to borrow a vehicle to get to appointments and she could be readily available if her son has an emergency issue that requires immediate help. Due to knee problems, Roberson is unable to walk long distances, and the gift of reliable transportation will truly be a blessing for her.

“I am overwhelmed with joy. I can’t tell everyone thank you enough on behalf of myself and my children,” said Roberson.

“Texas Collision Centers is so very grateful to have been chosen as the repair partner to refurbish this vehicle for the benefit of such a worthy veteran recipient in Ms. Roberson. Giving back to the communities we serve is engrained in our culture and an important part of our identity as an organization," said Shyllo Michaelis, chief strategy officer, Texas Collision Centers.

NABC Recycled Rides is a unique program in which businesses representing all facets of the collision repair industry team up to repair and donate vehicles to individuals and families in need of reliable transportation. Since the inception of the program in 2007, members of the NABC have donated more than 3,200 vehicles valued at some $46 million.

Additional partners in the presentation included Enterprise, Cars for Charity, Advanced Remarketing Services, INA Towing and Complete Collision Solutions.
