A devastating two-alarm fire tore through EZ Car Plus, a used car dealership and repair shop in Edgewood, MD, on March 8, causing an estimated $2 million in damage and injuring one employee, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene on Pulaski Highway around 2:52 p.m., where they found flames engulfing the single-story structure. Approximately 50 firefighters from the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company and neighboring departments battled the blaze and brought it under control within 30 minutes. Despite the swift response, the building sustained extensive damage.

The fire marshal’s office reported the fire originated in the auto repair shop and caused significant destruction to both the dealership and service facility. One employee was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators noted the facility lacked critical fire protection systems, including smoke alarms, fire alarms and sprinklers.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.

No further injuries were reported, and no additional buildings were damaged.
