A Cleveland, OH, single mother’s life took a transformative turn Aug. 1, as she was presented with a fully refurbished 2019 Volkswagen Jetta, thanks to the National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides program, GEICO and Gerber Collision & Glass-Westerville.

Key’aira Bray found herself in a shelter system after losing her job and home while pregnant with her second child. She was able to relocate into her own housing with the assistance of the Cleveland Rapid Rehousing Program. She has gained stable employment and will begin a phlebotomy training program soon.

Bray received the vehicle in a special ceremony in the Columbus area. The donation will significantly impact Bray’s ability to support her family, providing reliable transportation for work, school and other essential needs.

"It’s so nice to be able to provide a vehicle to somebody who really deserves it," said Adam Powers, general manager of Gerber Collision & Glass-Westerville, which refurbished the donated vehicle. "When we realize their story, it just makes us feel so good to be involved."

The NABC Recycled Rides program, which partners with businesses across the collision repair industry, has donated more than 3,300 vehicles valued at approximately $47 million since its inception in 2007.

Additional partners in the donation included PPG, Classic Volkswagen of Madison, Byers Volkswagen, AutoZone, Maynard’s Towing, 1-800 Charity Cars, Copart and Enterprise.
