CAA Chapters Hosting Meetings to Review Storage Rate Changes

The California Bureau of Automotive Repair's proposed changes would affect how collision repair shops can charge to store vehicles on their property.

Two chapters of the California Autobody Association are hosting meetings in January to give members an overview of proposed changes to the way collision repair shops can charge for storing vehicles on their property.

The new guidelines, proposed by the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR), would make shops subject to low government tow yard rates in certain circumstances, and require shops to report storage fees to BAR for publication on a public website. Shops will also be required to justify their rates based on the actual and direct costs associated with storing vehicles, and will only be able to adjust rates once a year.

BAR held three public hearings on the proposed changes in 2024 but is not required to go through a legislative process to enact them.

A presentation on the proposed changes will be hosted by Matthew Gibson and Patrick Dorais with BAR.

CAA’s Los Angeles/Orange County chapter will host the BAR representatives Jan. 22 at Old Ranch Golf Club, 3901 Lampson Ave. in Seal Beach.

The San Diego Chapter will host them Jan. 23 at Carlton Oaks Golf Club, 9200 Inwood Drive in Santee.

Both meetings will open at 5:30 p.m. with a meet and greet, followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the presentation at 7 p.m. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions.

The cost is $90 for CAA members and $150 for non-members.

RSVPs are required. To RSVP, contact Cindy Shillito, CAA SoCal representative, at 714-944-4028 or radiatorgirl@socal.rr.com.
