A family in Houston on June 5 received a fully restored 2020 Kia Sportage LX through the National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides program, made possible by GEICO and Black Tie Collision Centers of Houston.

Having reliable transportation will help recipient Michael Pinon and his family access essential medical care and job opportunities. Nominated by Fort Bend Family Promise, the Pinons have overcome homelessness and continue to manage serious health issues without reliable transportation.

Both parents work, and the NABC Recycled Ride will make their commutes more manageable and will reduce their daily stress and dependence on ride shares.

The Kia Sportage was donated by GEICO, NABC’s largest vehicle donor, which has contributed more than 1,000 vehicles since the program’s inception in 2007. The vehicle was refurbished by I-CAR Gold Certified technicians at Black Tie Collision Centers, which operates three full-service locations in the greater Houston area.

Founded in 2007, the NABC Recycled Rides program unites collision repair professionals, insurers, parts suppliers and charitable organizations to provide reliable transportation to families and individuals in need. To date, the program has donated 3,500 vehicles valued at $51 million.

The Pinon family’s vehicle presentation also included support from Mobile Tech Solutions, LKQ, Stonewall, Advanced Remarketing Services, Cars for Charity, Copart and Enterprise.
