Auto body repair shops across the country have begun to transition to water based paint for their painting services, as newer car models are painted with water based paint. The nationwide trend will grow as newer cars are initially painted with a water based paint and manufacturers stop producing solvent based paint beyond the clearcoat.
Water based paints provide a more brilliant color than solvent based paints, due to the differences in how light is reflected from the different materials. The newer automotive finishes from the car factories have a more brilliant sheen, which is difficult to blend with a solvent based paint.
“The water based paint allows us to match paints exactly with factory finishes on newer vehicle models, and our painter can still blend paint jobs on cars with solvent based paints,” explained Donnie Thiessens, Reno native and owner of Liberty Collision.
Liberty Collision uses PPG Automotive Refinish water based paints, and the automotive paint team at Liberty Collision continues training with representatives from PPG to ensure the highest quality automotive paint service.
