New Kent Board Tells VA Business to Begin Permit Process

At its work session June 24, the New Kent County Board of Supervisors gave the go-ahead for Dennis Towing, Truck and Trailer to begin the process of obtaining a Conditional Use Permit for heavy truck repair services, reported Tidewater Review.

Dennis Towing, which started out as a car repair facility, has transitioned into heavy truck repair garage. A conditional use permit is required for any use not specifically listed for the business under country code.

Under the advisement of Matthew Smolnik, director of community development for New Kent County, the board advised the business to begin the process but declined to draft an official definition for the truck repair business, reported Tidewater Review.

The board discussed at the work session whether to accept a family subdivision application from John Britt and a cash contribution of $25,000 to the Pine Fork Development Fund from developer Avery VII LC.

The proposed subdivision would yield three new and one retained. Though the family subdivision will be reviewed at a July public hearing, the application raised questions of whether the county's code should be amended, reported Tidewater Review. The current code states that if a subdivision is to occur VDOT must put in a state highway

The board ultimately decided to have county staff look into the matter. The next regularly scheduled meeting is on July 6, reported Tidewater Review.
