On June 22, the Washington Metropolitan Auto Body Association (WMABA) held its annual golf tournament at the Virginia Oaks Golf Course in Gainesville, VA.

Nearly 100 participants raised over $20,000 to benefit the association and the Jerry Dalton Memorial Education Fund, which supports local automotive programs in VA and MD. The fund also provides individual scholarships to deserving students. According to Jordan Hendler, executive director of WMABA, “The golf tournament went really well. We had great weather, excellent participation and a lot of fun!”

WMABA has hosted its annual golf tournament for several decades. “It’s getting more and more successful. We have a lot of regulars who attend every year, but we are also seeing a steady rate of new participants, so the turnout this year was really good," Hendler noted. "The golf tournament is the only fundraiser WMABA does other than collecting membership fees. In addition to benefitting the Jerry Dalton Memorial Education Fund, the money raised helps support association initiatives, such as member benefits and legislative efforts.”

The golf tournament met WMABA’s expectations. “We always hope for a sold-out event, but it’s most important that we maximize the event for the people who show up,” Hendler said. “Our long-time supporters continue to come out and bring new partners with them, enhancing networking opportunities for all attendees. We are very grateful to our sponsors who bring their employees and other shop owners and managers.”

During the golf tournament, WMABA presented immediate past president Don Beaver with a president’s plaque as a surprise award, recognizing him for his service over two terms. Hendler noted, “Don is a shining example of what we can all do when we set our hearts on such a course. Anyone who knows him knows he’s just the best mix of kindness and spitfire you’ll ever find. I tell him every time we talk that he’s my favorite person. He laughs, but it’s actually true. We’ve done the best and worst legislation together, been through difficult parts discussions, held plenty of WMABA meetings, and he’s led us through some of our most trying times as our industry shifts and changes by the millisecond. Thank you, Don, for all that you do for all of us!”

Axalta, Sherwin-Williams, Reliable Automotive Equipment, Caliber Collision Centers, PPG, AkzoNobel, BASF, Chesapeake Automotive Equipment, and Packer Norris Parts all contributed as Level 1 sponsors this year. The Level 2 sponsors included Automotive Training Institute, CAPA, FinishMaster, Mid-Atlantic Paint & Supply, National Coatings & Supplies, and Wheels Onsite.
