Indianapolis firefighters are investigating a fire that broke out the afternoon of April 14 at Deluxe Auto Shop, 2301 E. 38th St, Indianapolis, which had recently closed.
Crews were called to the area of 38th Street and Hillside Avenue shortly before 2:30 p.m. to the fire at the former auto body shop. They arrived and found heavy black smoke pouring out of the building.
The shop closed down a few weeks ago and the shop's former employees were cleaning when they noticed the fire. Fire crews said the former paint and auto body shop had just closed on the first of the month.
Lt Larry Tracy, from Indianapolis Fire Department said, "They were cleaning it out. They did have a paint booth inside the building but it was inactive and they were in the process of tearing it out as well."
The fire spread to the roof. Crews had a hard time getting to the flames, but were able to break through a wall and gain access to the roof.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, however it does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
There were no injuries reported.
