AASPI’s OEM Procedure Bill Approved in Senate

Written by

On April 12, the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of Illinois’ proposed Senate Bill 2104 passed out of the Illinois Senate.

Sponsored by Senator Thomas Cullerton (D), the bill prohibits repair facilities from using repair procedures that fail to comply with OEM guidelines. It also provides consumers with the choice to use OEM parts instead of aftermarket parts.

According to Brian Wojcicki, AASPI lobbyist, “Getting it out of the Senate was our first hurdle, and this was the first time in the past two years that we have been able to move this type of legislation.

“There will be more negotiations with all interested parties as the bill now moves to the House of Representatives.”

Representative Elizabeth Hernandez (D) will sponsor the bill in the Illinois House of Representatives.
