A fire that originated in the paint booth of an auto body repair shop in the far Northwest Side of San Antonio on March 10 caused about $65,000 in damage, according to officials.

Firefighters responded to the blaze around noon at the Body Tec car shop in the 10200 block of Culebra Road.

Battalion Chief Raul Reyes said the fire began in the paint booth of the shop, where technicians "bake" cars during the painting process. The fire eventually then spread through the booth's exhaust vents.

Employees of the shop said there was not a car in the booth at the time of the blaze.

Reyes said firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 20 minutes, but the booth was destroyed. He said the owner told him it would cost about $65,000 to repair the damage done by the fire.
