NORFOLK, VA- A fire erupted at an auto parts store on October 1.

Battalion Chief Julian Williamson said firefighters were notified of the fire in the 2500 block of Granby St. around 5:30 p.m. Williamson said crews received reports about black smoke coming from the roof of the store. When crews initially arrived, Williamson said, they found nothing on the outside of the building. Further investigation revealed smoke-stained windows and light smoke on the inside of an Advantage Auto Parts Store and Warehouse.

As more crews began to arrive, Williamson said they reported moderate heat and black smoke inside the store. Firefighters searched the building until they found the fire, which Williamson said was quickly extinguished.

The fire was deemed under control at 6:05 p.m. Williamson said the store did not have working smoke alarms and was closed at the time of the fire. There was also no one inside at the time of the fire.

About 36 firefighters responded to the fire. There were no injuries reported.

Williamson said the fire does not appear suspicious, but is still under investigation.
