On Monday, March 14, the ASA-CO hosted a Learning Circle at Lake Arbor Automotive & Truck in Westminster, CO. During this meeting, attendees had the opportunity to meet Senator Laura Woods of District 19.
Kari Foster, executive director of ASA-CO, said, "The attendees really liked meeting the senator; I even had one attendee send me names of state representatives that they would like to meet with in the future."
Members came prepared with several topics to discuss with Senator Woods. One of the most popular topics was how the abandonment of vehicles affects a shop.
According to Foster, "We had an intimate group, so attendees really got to know Senator Woods of District 19 and ask questions. Members also left with a better understanding of how to work with their local state representatives."
Senator Woods also enjoyed the meeting with ASA-CO members.
She stated, "I had a great meeting with ASA Colorado. They had some great legislation ideas for a future session, and this is the value of sitting down with different industries to talk one on one. We learn what's happening in your industry that we couldn't possibly know otherwise. Thank you, ASA Colorado, for the jobs you provide to our citizens!"
ASA-CO's Learning Circle format has proven very useful to members because it provides an opportunity to gather together and it "empowers them to get involved with issues in their own backyard, issues that affect our industry and their shop every day," Foster says. "It is important to bring our community together and to learn from one another. The people who attended this meeting left feeling like they could effect change in their own community - so the event was a success!"
