Johnson & Johnson Gas Break in NJ Fixed

Repairs have been completed on a gas main break that forced the evacuation on Sept. 17, 2014 of about 750 from a Johnson & Johnson building on Route 202.

A contractor was digging to install a new generator outside a Johnson & Johnson IT facility at 1003 Route 202 North in Raritan Borough, according to Lindsey Puliti, spokeswoman for PSE&G.

Melody H. Meade, spokeswoman for Johnson & Johnson, stated that local fire and police departments were alerted while 750 employees and contractors were evacuated to a nearby Johnson & Johnson property by an emergency response team from the organization.

PSE&G dug a hole about 300 feet away from the building towards a wooded area and clamped the leak to make repairs. The crews had the gas shut off by around noon. All personnel were returned to the building by around 1:30 p.m., Meade reported.

There were no reported injuries.

Raritan Fire Department was assisted by Somerville Fire, the Bradley Gardens Fire Company FAST Team, and the Ortho Fire Brigade.
