Knight’s Automotive Repair of Roxbury, NJ, is again seeking nominees for the annual Wheels to Prosper program, in which a refurbished used car is given to an altruistic person needing a new set of wheels.

The Ledgewood shop hopes to get nominees by Sept. 30, said co-owner Nancy Knight. The vehicle will be donated before the end of the year.

“We have a car,” Knight said. “It’s a 2008 Honda Civic that we’re going to be refurbishing.”

She noted Knight’s doesn’t work alone in restoring the cars it donates. Ken’s Auto Body of Ledgewood will detail the Civic and perform any body work needed.

Knight said Lakeland Auto Parts and Denville Transmission also partner in the program, and she noted that Knight’s customers often donate money, and sometimes cars.

Knight’s has been participating in the national Wheels to Prosper initiative since 2010. Knight said the six people who’ve received vehicles are quite special; selfless types who will give the shirts off their backs to help others, even if it means driving a jalopy.

“We are looking for a deserving community member,” Knight said, noting nominees don’t have to be Roxbury residents, but should be from the vicinity. “We’re looking for that person who does for others---that caring, giving person who may be experiencing a difficult time without a vehicle. Most of the time, these types of people won’t help themselves.”

Potential winners need not be active in a bunch of local organizations and well-known, Knight said, painting a picture of unsung heroes who don’t make a big deal about their efforts.

“They can be helpful to family members, their church or synagogue or volunteer with community charities,” she said. “That’s who we like to see: somebody who gives selflessly to the community, but needs a car.”

Those who know somebody worth nominating can send a brief description of the person they have in mind to Knight’s Automotive. The nominations should include a name and contact information along with information about the person giving the nomination.

Nominations can be submitted by emailing service@knightsautorepair.com or by mail to Knight’s Automotive Repair, 171 E. Main St., Ledgewood, NJ 07852.
