Pawtucket Auto Body is now open in an expanded space at the former Courtesy Collision location at 262 Broadway, a site its owner says gives the company easier accessibility and greater visibility.

Domenic Coccia, of Cumberland, who’s been in business for 30 years and opened a new body shop on Main Street in 2012, said he’s already getting strong business on a stretch of Broadway that was converted to two-way traffic late last year.

The former Courtesy Collision was an attractive location for many reasons, said Coccia, including the fact that it came with plenty of equipment from the old Courtesy Collision.

The new space, located just off I-95, covers 7,000 square feet, compared to 4,000 square feet at the Main Street location.

Alison Bruck, manager at Pawtucket Auto Body for the past year and Coccia’s fiancée, said she can testify to the difference in the work done here and at other places. She said she knows firsthand the frustration of having one’s car at the shop for a month and then getting it back in substandard condition.

Coccia’s attention to detail is incredible, said Bruck, and the vehicles he fixes head out the door looking new.

“He won’t let it out the door until it’s fixed,” she said. “He makes sure everything is safe.”

Coccia wants people to speak highly of him, said Bruck. He gets in the shop and does the work himself and he knows the business from “soup to nuts,” from doing estimates to fighting with insurance companies on customers’ behalf.

A top priority for Coccia is making people feel comfortable about a process that can often be unnerving following a car accident, said Bruck.

Coccia said he’ll always side with the customer and always makes sure to absorb the deductible in the final cost. This is not a preferred auto body shop, he said, because he doesn’t want insurance companies telling him what to do.

Coccia said the continued expansion of his auto body shop means he’ll likely be able to open a second alternate location in the future, with the Broadway facility remaining as the hub.

Pawtucket Auto Body offers 24-hour free towing when the company does the repairs.

As Cumberland residents, Bruck and Coccia are active in their local community, sponsoring local teams and causes, and Coccia said he plans to expand his efforts to support the Pawtucket community in the near future.
