A Liberty man was arrested for allegedly breaking into an auto body shop on North Main Street in the village, damaging property in and around the business and then stealing a vehicle.

Village Police arrested Donald Houghtaling, 29, charging him with burglary, criminal mischief and grand larceny, all as felonies, and reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and DWI, all as misdemeanors, and several vehicle and traffic violations. He is in the Sullivan County Jail without bail.

Police has been called to a late night report of a burglary in progress and the shop and when they arrived at the scene, they saw a suspicious vehicle leaving the scene. Officers attempted to stop it, but the car took off in a reckless manner, forcing several other drivers off the road.
