The promo runs November 16 through December 31, 2015. During this time, drivers that have hit a deer and have the repair completed at a participating CARSTAR location will receive a $25 gift certificate for a holiday turkey ...AND also trigger a turkey donation to the participating CARSTAR store’s local charity of choice. The promo dates encompass the time when deer collisions are at their highest (during mating and hunting seasons) and when local charities need all the help they can get from the people and businesses in their community.
Current statistics show Illinois drivers have a 1 in 199 and Missouri drivers have a 1 in 120 chance of having a deer-related crash. The likelihood of deer hits more than doubles during October, November, and December. State Farm Insurance Company’s most recent deer-collision data indicates the average cost of a deer-hit-related claim is up 6% to $4,135 (from $3,888 in 2014).To fully cover any potential damage, drivers should carry comprehensive insurance that usually covers such crashes.
According to the Insurance Information Institute and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, injuries, vehicle damage, and fatalities can all result from vehicle collisions with deer. In 2013, 191 deaths were the result of collisions with animals, with deer being the animal most often struck. Fortunately, vehicles can be repaired and there are things you can do to stay safer during this heightened timeframe of deer activity. Defensive driving, wearing a seat belt, using high beams at night when there is no oncoming traffic, and scanning the road and adjoining areas for gleaming wildlife eyes are first-line methods. Additionally, use extra caution in known deer zones and avoid swerving when you see a deer.
