ASA new sponsor of Arizona Student of the Year

Written by Autobody News staff

The Automotive Service Association of Arizona (ASA-AZ) has stepped in to sponsor the Student of the Year Awards banquets in Phoenix and Tucson, which lost their sponsorship at the end of 2005.

Arizona high school automotive instructors pick their most outstanding students from the automotive repair senior class based on the student's attitude, attendance, ability, and of course grades. These are some of the top students in Arizona.

Students can also apply for a $1,000 scholarship good at any accredited automotive program. The Arizona Association will be awarding four scholarships. To apply, a student must submit an essay detailing why he or she should win, their plans for the future, and their automotive background. The high school instructor must nominate the student and provide a letter of recommendation that accompanies the ASA-AZ Scholarship Application. Prizes and gifts for the students are still being planned at this time. Importantly, students will receive a plaque acknowledging them as "Student of the Year" from ASA-AZ.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, a high school senior must be nominated by his/her automotive technology instructor. Furthermore, the student must fill out the ASA-AZ Scholarship Application and write an essay of 500 words or less.

For more information about the program, contact Bob Jones, ASA-AZ education director, 480-557-0655.
